Jose and Lucy
Tried the prawns Thursday night.
Fatso loudly prevailed,
"That's the fried lite Basque cuisine."

Cruise broads ripe in bright bars,
Choose the hair color right,
Order hamhocks pre-washed
And a gallon steaming tea.

Scan the Rockettes' red hair –
No blondes durst sing in there.
"Dave who?" Una cried,
And the hag shrugged and stared.

Jose tossed that bar's mangled hammer at Dave –
Or at Stan, hovering –
And sent the homos away.

Note: In the 1980s I watched a crowd moving their mouths to the national anthem, and it looked like many of them didn't know the words or what they meant. So I wrote new ones. Dolphin-Moon Press published "The Bar's Mangled Hammer" and "The Board Splayer" as small black & white comic books (graphic verses?), with drawings by Nick, in 1985.

I periodically add more stories to this site. If you'd liked to get an alert whenever I do that, use the RSS feed at the bottom of the home page, or click here and send me your email address.
